Coming Tuesdays: Photography and editing tips

Hello everybody! (Hi Dr. Nick!)

My name is Jocelyn and I'm your new Tuesday blogger. Thank you to everyone on the Buffalo Etsy Team blog for inviting me to join. We have a great community going here, and I am thrilled to be a part of it. I am going to blog primarily about photography - shooting, editing, staging and more!

I make painted wood earrings, necklaces, boxes and bowls for my almost 1-year-old Etsy shop, Paragraph Loop. In the real world, I am also a graphic designer and a freelance photographer.

Clearly, I'm a visual person

I can personally attest to the dramatic difference that good photography makes to your shop. After changing the image of one of my wood bowls, views and treasury inclusions skyrocketed and it made the front page - not once, but twice!

Left, original photo. Right, photo that made it to the front page.

Here is a rough outline of some of the things I am planning to write about on Tuesdays:

Top, an unedited, staged photo.
Bottom, the final version.
- Choosing a camera
- Using your camera
- Basic photography
- How to stage your products
- Making the most out of listing images
- Editing programs
- Basic image editing
- Advanced image editing
- Designing an Etsy banner and icon
- Designing tags and display cards

If there are any related topics you would like me to write about, please leave a comment. I am always open to suggestions and I welcome your input! Also, if you have a catchy name for this space, I'd love to hear it (pathetic rejects include Tuesdography or Photosday).

Happy Tuesday!

-- Jocelyn
